Chain of fools
Promo season seems to always reactivate #BestOfFans' predatory instincts. Today, one of the people I was mildly 'following' on X, knowing she was a very decent, half-clandestine shipper had the naivete to share a pic taken today with C. Lo and behold, the KGB across the street immediately started the screeching. I would have granted them a pass, were it not for the very curious angle they chose to present things, this time:
Most, if not ALL of the women involved in that conversation were born and lived their entire lives in a country where democracy was never completely obliterated. They have no idea, nor direct experience of what a dictatorship looks and sounds and feels like and yet they look and sound and feel exactly like The Pravda, circa 1951, where enemies of the people (including Americans, so basically... themselves?!) were currently called 'reactionary/ imperialist vipers'. Replace shipper by 'enemy of the people' and voilà:
'Because she's a known shipper enemy of the people and has been one for a long time. All smiles around Cait and on SM and her tumblr page she's a snake like the rest of her ilk.'
Most, if not ALL of the women involved in that revolting conversation can recite by heart The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag:
[Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pledge_of_Allegiance]
'With liberty and justice for all'. This includes the freedom of speech, set into stone by the First Amendment to the US Constitution, which reads:
[Source: https://constitution.congress.gov/browse/amendment-1/]
You think I am overreacting? In that case, I wouldn't be the only one. It took me exactly three minutes to find on Google a short, but very interesting blog post about the metaphor of the snake being used as a dehumanizing tool in many totalitarian regimes' official rhetoric and media. I will quote it briefly, leaving the rather ironic references to current US politics aside. I find it very interesting and enlightening, for a certain pervasive mentality, in some regions of this fandom:
[Source: https://www.dangerousspeech.org/libraries/beware-of-snakes-a-common-dehumanization-trope]
I have written it before and I probably will write it again, but the Eastern European I am feels unsettled and worried about this. It is not only unsavory, it is violent and denotes a totalitarian way of thinking I am very surprised to find in the minds of these mature women, who lived in complete freedom for all of their lives.
Oh, and by the way. Given that particular 'enemy of the people''s active and very public commitment to charities supported by C (you know, as in raising money for WCC and so on...), I am absolutely sure C knows very well who she is. And I wonder what were they expecting from her, in a work-related context nonetheless, even if (the premise is perfectly absurd, as C does not give a fuck about fandom wars) C would not stand shippers.
By the same token, why would C offer anything more than a vague, borderline formulaic birthday reference while talking to the press, knowing fully well each and every word she utters would be immediately dissected to death and weaponized by the factions of this fandom?
Ironically, their knowledge about Eastern Europe is about zero. I just had to LOL (not really), reading this very serious and concerned dialogue between Marple and The Vulgar Canadian Journo. The Canadian was pissed off about Maril showing up, as she is supposed to, for promo, in NYC:
It's not STAZI, madams, but STASI - short for Ministerium für Staatssicherheit, or Ministry for the State Security. Each and every USSR satellite state had one, but both of these arrogant and superficial Westerners make it sound like a harmless gossip and propaganda machine. In reality, the STASI, along with its sister institutions, was a supremely powerful, merciless apparatus that crushed tens and tens of thousands of lives, encouraged hatred and denouncement (for money, political protection and social climbing) even within the same family. And I personally remember the day where an agent of the local STASI, the Securitate, picked me up from school, walked with me for almost one hour until he left me on my doorstep, in a cruel attempt to make me denounce Shipper Mom. I was nine years old. I will never forget, nor forgive. I felt raped. You don't care and you could never understand, of course, but for the love of God, keep off such complicated tropes you have no idea about.

Jikook Week 50 Complete (19/11-26/11/2024)
Their 50th week in the military is now complete. Today we are looking back at this week in 2020. This was a big week for BTS with the release of Be on 20th November along with Life Goes On directed by none other than Jeon Jungkook.
youtube
On the same day these concept photos were released to accompany the album. Jimin in a room full of flowers and JK backed by a wall of music speakers. Both of them looking fabulous in their own way.
Their agenda was packed with interviews and appearances that week. Alongside the promo activities Run BTS 116 (17/11) & 117 (24/11) were shown. Run BTS was centered around good team work. There were 16 potential missions but they only had to pass five of these before they could go home.
Minimoni had a penalty from the previous episode and had to wear flowery trousers and rubber shoes.
Game 1: Read my Mind ✔️Success - The members had to do a pose in response to a specific word e.g. heart and they would win if their poses were all different. There was a fair amount of creativity on show and the game was completed in quick time.
Game 2: Jump Rope ✔️Success - In the second game, BTS had to jump rope 50 times. Jikook took the lions share of the work together doing 30 jumps and Sope did the least with 5 between them.
Game 3: Tennis ❌Failure - Despite having Hobi on the team (bronze medal winner in a tournament of three teams) tennis just didn't work out for them.
Game 4: Guess the song - ✔️Success -Tae, JK and Suga took turns to be blindfolded. They had to feel the poses that each member was making and from that guess the song. Jimin is squirming when it was Tae's turn to guess and then there was JK. We know he did include Jimin, there is even the picture below from the behind but that whole sequence is cut from the show.
JK guessed correctly and Suga also turns out to be a bit of a whizz at the game so they safely completed this round.
Game 5: Table cloth pull - ✔️Success - This was a really difficult challenge and the staff kept setting the bar lower and lower when BTS failed to achieve it. Initially the target was 4/7 to successfully keep the bottles upright while the table cloth is pulled away but by the end BTS had successfully negotiated that one person would be enough. Jimin was up and no one was more surprised than he was that he successfully pulled it off.
Game 6: Bottle Pass - ✔️Success - They took ages planning how to take on this challenge and had numerous unsuccessful dry runs but when put on a timer, they competitiveness and teamwork won through and they successfully completed the task.
They displayed such good team work that they were able to complete the challenges by 6pm and went home three hours early.

hello fellow tinhats in the mcr tag I would like to add something bc I've seen a lot of people mentioning ties between the long live promo and both swarm tour/wwwy and there's something I haven't seen mentioned yet
A lot of people have brought up the cold war inspo, especially on reddit and I would like to contribute a little gem I found
Kristin Colby shared this post where many noticed the connection between the audience and the wwwy visuals
So I went to the op's (@/pau.lpzlms) page and found their videos from the show and noticed this (this is during famous last words)
Bad screenshot but it pretty clearly says Garibaldi Corps. I haven't found any mentions of it on Twitter or reddit but I did a little wiki dive.
It's easy to think this is actual historical footage of a war rally or something but the name "Garibaldi Corps" only shows results for corporations and companies with the name garibaldi. However the name Garibaldi is commonly used in Italian military, named after Giussepe Garibaldi, a hero of the Italian unification wars, but none of them are called "corps"
there are different brigades/battalion named after Garibaldi in different wars.
•cold war (8th Bersaglieri Brigade "Garibaldi")
A bersaglieri is an infantry troop made up of mostly marksmen or gunmen. This particular brigade was activated in 1975 in the peak of the cold war, along with its sister brigades manin and mamelli, also named after italian unification heroes. When the cold war officially ended in 1991, the garibaldi brigade became the first troop in the Italian army to become fully professionalized.
•world war ii (Brigate Garibaldi)
the cold war brigade was named partially in honor of these units that served during ww2. These were partisan groups composed of mostly communists as well as non-communist members of the national liberation committee and the Italian socialist party fighting against the occupation by n*zi germany in italy as well as italian fascists during the Italian Civil war. According to wiki: "they were the largest of the partisan groups and suffered the highest number of losses. Members wore a red handkerchief around the neck with red stars on their hats."
There are other uses of the name by Italian groups in the Spanish civil war, the American Civil War, during the polish wars in the 1860s, and a French brigade during ww1
It's interesting how the drum is being passed around the audience supposedly during the appearance from his grand immortal dictator, if the concert visuals do correspond with the poster. the ww2 garibaldi units were italian resistance groups against the fascist regime, meanwhile the cold war brigade was a mechanized troop created in response to the threat of the soviet union. In both cases, Russia is the enemy but the first group were rebels and the second are professional soldiers.
It could simply be that Garibaldi is a common name for Italian military units across history and so perfect for this worldbuilding they're going for but I do think allusions to both these specific groups would be very interesting

♫ the story of us | k.sn
freshly broken up with sunoo, you turn up to a party, one where you already know he’s going to be at. the catch? nobody knew you ever dated. keeping your past under wraps is one thing, but throw in the lingering feelings, and you have yourself a hot mess…
read the rest of the series here! (for taglist)
pairing ➭ popular boy sunoo x class president reader
genre ➭ lovers to strangers (a terrible attempt really), angst, mutual pining but they’d never admit it, post-breakup, secret dating
word count ➭ 3.4k (i like drabbles)
a/n ➭ i popped this out first because i’m crazy for sunoo recently lmao...more to come in the next two months, my schedule is gonna get wild so imma try to wrap this up asap. sunwonki's parts are actually interconnected, but they're not in chronological order haha. if u want to figure out the timeline/see bonus moments of each couple, read them all (shameless self promo i know). enjoy!
Damn, do you hate high school.
It’s friday, and you’re at your locker, arranging your books after the last class of the day. Students have started leaving the classrooms by now, and the hallway’s one big traffic jam. Normally, you’d be thrilled to have a nice weekend, unhindered by your teachers’ incessant nagging. But this week isn’t the same as every other week, is it?
Because it’s the first weekend you’re spending without Sunoo.
It was a quiet affair, really. Literally nobody even knew you and Sunoo were dating. Please, you two were worlds apart – you, the class president, and Sunoo, the popular it-boy. No one, not even you, could’ve seen it coming. You two had gotten off to a rough start, having classroom cleaning duties together. You were particular about everything, from the way he held the broom to the direction he swept in. He, on the other hand, was more concerned with what time he’d be let off so he could go out with his friends. So yeah, your first interactions were essentially petty bickering.
But somewhere along the line, you began to see eye to eye. Maybe it was the way the light sparkled in his eyes when he smiled, even on rainy days. Maybe it was the way he’d invited you to grab boba after your duties for the first time, a conspiratorial glint in his eyes (yeah, you had a thing for his pretty eyes). Or maybe it was the way he’d kissed you in an empty classroom, rays of the setting sun streaming in through the window shutters as he held you in his arms, a silent promise to never let go.
You scoff to yourself. Not all promises can be kept, especially when it comes to you and Kim Sunoo.
In the corner of your eye, you spot Sunoo and his friends leaving a classroom, laughing amongst themselves. He passes you, never once looking at you, and you force yourself to turn away. You don’t care. You cannot care.
Slamming your locker door shut, you sling your bag over your shoulders, ready to find your friends for a trip to some cafe. It would make a good distraction. Or so you think, until Soobin runs up to you, hands on his knees as he tries to catch his breath. “Y/n! Have you heard? There’s a birthday party tonight at Kim Sunoo’s house.”
The very mention of Sunoo sends your head spinning, and you have to lean against your locker to ground yourself. Soobin doesn’t know, and you’d like to keep it that way. “Whose birthday is it?”
“Nishimura Riki, I think? That guy in the fencing club.” As if you need the introduction. Sunoo talked about him a lot, his love for his best friend ridiculously wholesome. But it’s the way Sunoo never told you he was hosting a birthday party for him, and the fact that you only broke up a week ago, that pisses you off. Just a little.
Gosh, you really have to stop thinking of him.
“Honestly, does it really matter? You don’t do parties.” Soobin’s the head of the student council, a token good boy. It’s one of the reasons why you get along with him so well. The student council president and the class president are friends. Shocker.
Soobin grins sheepishly. “Yeah, but you know how I’ve been talking to the captain of the fencing club about this year’s budget recently? Turns out she’s Nishimura’s girlfriend, and she personally invited me tonight. And, um…” he trails off, handing you the invitation. “She said I could bring a plus one.” He looks at you with so much hope and despair, as though he’s begging you not to let him go alone to a party where he knows no one.
You eye him warily. “This the kind of party with alcohol and shit?”
“Think so. All the more reason for you to back me up, be my voice of reason, no?”
“If you need me to tell you not to drink, you probably shouldn’t be going at all.”
Soobin groans, pleading you with his eyes. “C’mon, you know I never drink. Just come, please? Don’t leave me to die.”
You two enter a staring contest, the persuasion practically emanating off him. It’s not even that you don’t want to go, you’d just rather not see Sunoo more than you have to. And that thought alone is what makes a twisted sort of determination flare in your chest. Who said you were gonna let Kim Sunoo dictate your life, huh? “Fine, I’ll do it,” you finally relent, and Soobin whoops. “Knew you’d come around. Let’s meet at seven at the mall, and we’ll go together. You can’t go back on your promise!”
As Soobin disappears into the crowd, you can’t help but sigh, banging your head against the wall. What exactly have you done?
Hours later, you’re at the mall, checking your wristwatch. Soobin said to be here at seven, but it’s quarter past seven and he still hasn’t shown up. Typical.
You tug on the hem of your hoodie. It’s oversized, the sleeves too long, the front too baggy as it reaches where your shorts end. Of course it is. It’s Sunoo’s. He never took it back from your house, so it’s still in your possession. You’re here to mess with him, and you want him to know it.
Finally, finally, you spot Soobin waving at you as he rushes over. He’s dressed simply too, though his clothes are pointedly better fitting. “Sorry I’m late. Student council meeting overran.”
You roll your eyes. Sunoo’s place isn’t far, so the walk isn’t long. “Let’s go over the rules. No drinking more than two cups of whatever they’re serving that has any kind of alcohol in it, or our parents are gonna kill us. And we are definitely leaving together, got it?”
Waving his hand dismissively, Soobin agrees. “Yeah, yeah. I got it. We’ll stick together until we can’t. If we do get separated, I’ll call you.” As you continue chatting, you realise your feet have moved on their own in the direction of Sunoo’s house, and Soobin’s staring at you weirdly. “Wow, did you memorise his address already? Your sense of direction is insane.”
Shit. “W-well, I just followed the street signs. Oh look, it’s right up ahead.” You walk ahead, trying to hide the way your ears flush hot. You’re a few blocks away, but already you can hear the thrum of the music coming from one of the houses. “Hurry up, we’re already late.”
The party itself is already well underway. It looks like your whole cohort and more is here, what with the massive crowd of people in the house, spilling into the front yard. The place smells of sweat and alcohol, a very foreign scent. You’re used to this house when it’s quiet, just you and Sunoo, the only words spoken shared between you two. Not this…rave of a birthday party. To think it isn’t even Sunoo’s.
Would he have done the same for yours?
Shaking your head, you shove those traitorous thoughts to a corner of your mind. Tonight isn’t supposed to be about him, yet everything is making you think of him.
You follow Soobin into the house, slipping past the crowd and into the doorway. In the living room, seated on a couch is Riki himself, laughing at something someone said. His arm’s slung around a really pretty girl, who Soobin tells you is his girlfriend.
And on Riki’s other side is him.
While you were dating Sunoo, he refused to go to parties, saying he’d go only if you agreed (which of course you didn’t, because that would be hard-launching you). This is the first time you’re seeing him really dressed up, and gosh, he looks good. He always did look good, but that half-unbuttoned collar of his shirt is driving you mad, more so than you’ve ever been. You’re desperately trying to hold on to any remaining shred of your sanity, but when his eyes meet yours, you feel it all slipping away.
There’s something weird about looking into Sunoo’s eyes, especially when he’s looking at you with a strange expression you know is only meant for you. It’s as though time has stopped completely, the background noise dulling, and the only thing in your world is his gaze on you. Knowing Soobin is here, you definitely have to pretend you don’t know Sunoo. He’s daring you, daring you to do something, right here in front of everyone. It’s also the reason why you broke up in the first place. Oh, the irony.
You ignore Soobin’s garbled protest as you march up to Riki. “Happy birthday!” you exclaim, handing your carefully-wrapped gift to him. “It’s not much, but I hope you like it anyway.”
Something odd lies beneath his gaze as he looks at you, receiving the gift coolly. “Thanks, Y/n. You’ll probably want a look around the place, won’t you?” He smacks Sunoo’s thigh good-naturedly. “Oi, house owner. Be a good host and give her a tour.”
Oh. So he knows after all.
Gritting your teeth, you’re about to reject his kind offer, when Sunoo rises to his feet. “No problem! Right this way, Y/n.” The fake cheeriness in his voice makes you inwardly scoff. You definitely don’t miss the way Sunoo’s hand instinctively moves to take yours, before retracting it in a sharp movement, as though he realises a second too late. The way he avoids looking directly at you afterward is indescribably satisfying.
As you pass Soobin, he does a double take. “Not even five minutes in and you’re abandoning me?” he splutters.
“Change of plans. Just stay put, I’ll come find you after this.”
“Why can’t I come with you?”
“Wanna follow me to the bathroom?”
At this, Soobin winces. “Okay, definitely not. Don’t forget about me, please?”
Patting him on the shoulder, you grin. “Not a chance. I’ll be back before you know it.”
You are not back before he knows it.
Sunoo mostly ran through the motions, showing you the kitchen, a games room, and all the food. Though you both know it’s useless. You already know all this. So it’s not unexpected when he leads you up the stairs to the hallway. There’s his room, straight on. Glancing around to make sure no one’s looking, he grabs your wrist and tugs you in, locking the door behind the two of you.
The room looks exactly like you remember, albeit void of the picture frames that once had photos of the two of you. There used to be a string of polaroids hanging above his bed, but even that’s gone. Gosh, this is so unfair. Clearly he had better luck in getting rid of every trace of you. At least, that’s what you think, until he slumps against the door, sinking to the ground with his face in his hands.
“Why’d you have to do that?” he groans. You can’t see his expression behind his hands, but by the sound of it, he doesn’t seem very pleased at all.
“Do what? You’re the one who told Nishimura you’d give me a tour. Don’t try to pin this on-”
“Nice hoodie you got there,” he interjects snarkily. “Get it now? Damn it, and I was doing so well, but here you are, wearing my clothes, in my house.” He finally looks up at you, and you can see the frustration he’d tried to hold in all this time. He runs his fingers through his hair, and for the first time, you realise he looks utterly despondent. It’s a sharp contrast to all the ignoring he’s been doing the past week, pretending you don’t exist, even when you’re just metres away from him. He’s been his same smiling self, a ray of sunshine to everyone, as though everything that ever happened between the two of you was a figment of your imagination.
You should be happy about this, really, that he’s no better than you. But you can’t deny the twinge of pain in your chest as you watch him. You’ve come to know the kind of person he is – sunny on the outside, only letting the mask fall in front of the people he trusts most. The fact that he’s even letting you see this right now is enough to render you speechless.
You swallow a lump in your throat you didn’t even know was there. “I…I’m not going to apologise.” It’s honestly a terrible thing to say, when your ex is on the ground and lamenting your relationship, but you really can’t think of anything to say that won’t let on more than you want to.
The laugh he lets out is rough, almost self-deprecating. “I don’t expect you to. This is…this is partially my fault.” He sighs, looking about as tired as he sounds. “We made the choice together, Y/n. We can’t…”
You know what he’s going to say – you can’t just go back on your word now., not when it took so much to part ways. To fall back into each other, or even admitting the desire to, would mean weakness. Heaven forbid you show any, being the prideful pair you are. Because what really mattered all along was the status quo, wasn’t it? Popular pretty boys don’t date nerds. It’s a disgusting stereotype, really, but at the end of the day you know what everyone will say if they ever found out. Selfish, but you need to be selfish if you want to protect yourself.
“What we had, we knew it couldn’t last. Life isn’t a romcom.” It’s less of a reply than it is a half-hearted attempt at convincing yourself that it’s true.
“You’re telling me that while wearing my clothes. Low blow, Y/n.”
Well, at least he can joke with you now. But it’s short-lived, and before you know it he’s getting to his feet, smoothing out his tousled hair. “This can’t happen again. We just have to be…strangers to each other. It’s easier that way.”
There’s this traitorous part of you that wants to reach out and grab him, pull him back into one last kiss. But you know it won’t do you any good, only make everything worse. He’s right. It’s easier to pretend nothing ever happened, because as far as anyone’s concerned, nothing ever happened. Besides, you suspect he’d really, really hate it if you did that.
Or so it seems, until it’s his hands that reach for you, his face buried in the crook of your neck like it’s the most natural thing in the world to do. Because it was. For a long time, it was. “Just give me a moment, will you?”
So you let him. You let him wrap his arms around you, let his fingers trace your jawline as he leans in and-
“One last kiss? Can I have it?”
Oh.
His voice shakes as he speaks, a moment of vulnerability, and the last one you will see. He’s searching your eyes for something. You don’t know if you have that something anymore. Wordlessly, you capture his lips in yours, letting yourself drown in his touch for the final time. It’s a bittersweet feeling, knowing your heart wants to stay in this moment forever, but your head tells you this can’t - won’t - happen again. Kim Sunoo knows every inch of you by heart, and he shows it in the way he holds you with a gentleness no one else could have towards you. Now, he will have to unlearn it, unlearn you.
Sunoo is the first to pull away. His lips are red and swollen, eyes glassy as he tries to get himself together. You’re guessing you don’t look much different. A quick glance in the mirror above his vanity is all you need to know that yes, you’re every bit the mess you think you are. Even as you turn the doorknob to leave, the lingering feeling of his hands on your waist refuse to fade. It takes all your effort to step out, descending the stairs alone. You know Sunoo’s right behind you, but somehow he already feels far, far away.
You scan the room for Soobin’s face. The crowd’s more dispersed by now, so it isn’t long before you spot him in a corner of the kitchen, munching on a pack of biscuits. “Took you long enough. They’re playing games right now, wanna join?”
“Sure, I guess.” You glance around, forcing yourself to ignore the footsteps on the stairs. “Where’s the birthday boy?”
Soobin shrugs. “Had to run an errand for his family, apparently. He’ll be back. It’s weird, though, what kind of errand has to be run so close to midnight?”
You turn to the dining table to see Riki’s girlfriend seated on one side, grinning as she watches a bunch of people play some sort of card game on the floor. Sunoo’s amongst them; you can see a tuft of blond hair peeking out from underneath the table. He’s laughing, the light in his eyes back again. Lots of people are clapping him on the back, and he only laughs louder. Watching him like this, in his comfort zone, you realise this is where he belongs. He belongs with people who shine like him, not you, the part of him that has to be hidden away. It’s for the better. It has to be.
So why do you still fantasise being by his side, even now?
Enough is enough. “Soobin, I’m leaving,” you murmur. Your fingers are tightly gripping the hoodie you’re still wearing as you start to zone out. What does it mean, really, that he didn’t ask for it back? “You coming?”
“Yeah, yeah.” You vaguely register him gather his things and follow you out, leaving the raucous party behind you. As you’re leaving, you spot Riki, who’s entering the house with a slight limp. Weird.
You walk down the empty street, the only sound being your footsteps and a few crickets in the bushes. It’s a good time to gather your thoughts, sort your emotions out before you have to talk to Soobin. He’s ridiculously perceptive, and sooner or later he’s gonna notice something’s off.
“Can I ask you a question?”
You jump, feet faltering as you turn to look at him. “Y-yeah?”
“How long have you been with Sunoo?”
This time, you come to a complete stop. “Come again?”
Soobin sighs. “I know, Y/n. You kept staring at him, and he kept staring back.”
“...did he now.”
You wrap your arms around your stomach, looking away. Soobin gets the hint, grimacing slightly. “Didn’t end well, huh?”
That’s all it takes for you to start spilling everything to him. To his credit, he doesn’t seem very judgemental of you, although you can’t really tell from the look on his face. “It’s just…people would say things about us, you know? It’s easier to maintain the status quo than it is to go public with him. So we ended things.”
“So you ended things with him because you didn’t want a taste of his world, and he didn’t want one of yours either?”
“Something like that.”
Soobin is silent for a moment, as if he’s trying to think of what to say. “So at the end of the day, it was pride.”
“What?’
He shrugs. “Pride. You were both too proud to give up what you’d built. In his case, it was his social standing. Yours was your good girl title.” Before you can even protest, he slaps a hand over your mouth. “Deny it all you want, but you know I’m right.”
His statement doesn’t warrant a reply, you know that. He knows you’re not the kind to change your mind easily, but he can at least make you think. And thinking you are. Soobin isn’t wrong, really. In fact, he basically summarised the whole conversation you had with Sunoo, with a lot more honesty. It’s not very comforting.
As you walk on, the music from the house drops to a soft thrumming, as though it’s saying goodbye. Walk on. Walk on, and don’t look back.
(You looked back once. Then never again.)

A LEGEND’S RETURN
(Husband!Randy Orton x Partner!Y/N)
They came at separate times so as to not alarm anyone, including their new, and once again co-workers. A sweatshirt covered their figure and the wrestling gear beneath, a staff uniform hiding their face along with their identity from other wrestlers, young and full of ambition, who wandered the halls.
It was happening. Of course, they had known so for many months prior but to be in the act, every step moving them closer to that one movement of pushing the curtain aside and stepping out onto the platform, music, and pyro, and fans jumping out of their seats, screaming in surprise and disbelief that they were back. Y/N L/N was back.
And for it to be their favorite pay-per-view of the year, besides Wrestlemania, of course, they were so grateful for. But to be able to experience it, side-by-side, with their husband, they would forever be thankful.
Y/N and Randy had met through wrestling, both rising to fame early on in their career in WWE, each known for their methodical attack method on their opponent and their ability to slowly bring their rival to the mat, shoulders down and to the finishing count of one two three, without them even noticing. Considering their same in-ring approach, they were paired together quite often, and in turn forced to spend many hours together.
Their partnership through work turned into a partnership through life, quickly developing deeper, and more passionate than either of the two believed they would ever be able to hold. Though their relationship was known to the public and quite obvious, both were seen as legends- each on their own, and together.
The crowd often shouted for the team to reunite or even just for Y/N in general, seeing as Randy had been in the company for a strong 15 years with no sight of stopping anytime soon but Y/N had unfortunately faced an injury, bad enough to almost threaten their life, and more indefinitely threaten their in ring ability.
But finally, after four years of physical therapy and continuous training, followed up by more training with the hopes of coming back and not having ring rust, they were back into smelly locker rooms so many others had been in before, possibly even them, jumping on their toes and shaking the anticipation from their hands with a energy they had missed for quite some time.
A soft knock rung on the wooden door, barely audible to those in and outside before the wood inched open a foot's width, a shiny, black wrestling boot peaking through before the face of the Legend Killer himself, a look of assurance and excitement set on his face at the sight of his partner back in their wrestling gear after so long.
A grin covered his face while he moved to sit in front of Y/N who continued their pacing, even at the sight of their very sweaty husband, who had just retained his title once again. His match had been shortly after another smaller one which preceded the mens’ Royal Rumble, leading Y/N to the realization that after a short promo, the women’s Royal Rumble would be starting and then finally, coming in at number 13, much like they had done many years before, and the temporary leave of one of WWE’s most loved superstars was forever ended.
Though even Randy’s presence would always, and (most of the time) indefinitely bring a sense of calm to Y/N it didn’t seem to do much at the moment. Their pacing was forced to come to a halt when Randy grabbed a hold of their shoulder, fingers gently feathering over their collarbone. Knowing no words would be able to cure their anxiousness, he pulled them in close with a kiss to the forehead while his hands were quick to find the curve of their lower back.
“What if they don’t remember me?” Though the words were whispered, the tension in them passed through the room as if they were shouted, maybe even screamed with enough intensity to break glass yet no one outside of the perimeters of the milimeteres between the two were able to hear it, muffled by the warm skin and dripping sweat of Randy’s shoulder.
“They were chanting for you last week baby, they know you and they absolutely want you back so don’t even think about that.” His rough but affectionately spoken words were hard to understand as well, neither wanting to end their physical contact. A strangled explanation tried to leave Y/N, but they weren’t able to express their worries so instead let out a frustrated sigh.
“You know they love you. I literally had to compete with the amount of love they had for you when we first got together N/N, I cannot even express to you how much they love you. How much I love you.” After a scoff from the receiving end of such sweet comments, Y/N decided it was time to part ways with their husbands shoulder.
‘Okay, enough with the mushy shit, I have to finish getting ready and then I gotta head to the gorilla.” Uncomfortable at Randy’s declaration of love, just like they always were, they pushed the subject forward much to the disappointment of his love for teasing them. After quickly finishing the final touches of their outfit and waiting in the small, concrete room for a special-made knock on the door from Triple H or Stephanie, two of the only people who knew about Y/N’s return.
Only twenty minutes of conversation seemed like forever, the lovers always able to get lost in each other no matter the circumstances, each of their ability to find joy, and laughter in their soulmate impeccable.
Knock, knock….knock.
Conversation was lost, and the sense of tingling appearing to the tips of fingers. A quick breath sucked into Y/N’s lungs along with a rush of energy and nervousness they had shortly lost.
“Guess it's time then, hm?” Randy’s question broke through the silence that had filled the cement room earning a hum of approvement, the sound echoing into the cold, empty room.
With a push of a door, and their husband following shortly behind, Y/N made their way into the crowded hallway with a confident stride, earning shocked stares because not only was Y/N L/N’s there, but they were in the same building as them, the same hallway as them, only feet away from them, and not only that but, Y/N L/N was in wrestling gear and the crowd was counting down, no other superstars in sight. Y/N L/N’s was back and they were witnessing it, firsthand.
Five!
Another anxious breath left them, tempted to once again start pacing feet away from the curtain that would bring them back into the WWE universe as their hangs began to ring together.
Four!
Y/N spun around, taking a quick look at the many screens and producers, the other superstars staring on in awe, at their husband, and the World Heavyweight Championship belt still around his waist, reminding them of their own success with the unfortunately abandoned Hardcore Title, and the Women's Championship Title.
Three!
At the thought of all of their accomplishments, made in independence and with the love of their life by their side, their small smile turned into a grin, the thought of how much they had longed to be back in the ring and how it was finally happening, their dream for the past four years finally coming true, nightmares of failing their fans and themselves never to return again.
Two!
Randy’s hand wrapped around the back of their neck, roughly pulling a surprised Y/N in for a passionate kiss from behind them, sending the both of them into a playful laughter, a whisper confined to the two of them even in the crowded room leaving Y/N.
“I’m back, baby. I’m back.”
One!
And they can..they can tell us we’re crazy, and we can say, well you haven’t seen anything yet.
The arena had never been louder, not in its 21 years of life, not in football games, not in screaming concerts with fans and musicians louder than life itself, not when Sheamus won his second back-to-back Royal Rumble that night, but for them. Because they were Y/N L/N, and they were back.

okay. for the first time in my life I'm using the #tdp critical tag because I have some things to get off my chest about s6 and I desperately need to focus on an exam for tomorrow and can't and idk I feel slightly out of my mind/wondering if this really is just a me problem but like
this season felt kind of sparse to me regarding character interactions outside of duos they wanted to focus on/letting characters present react to situations. stuff like Amaya not having a comment about Callum not being at her wedding or the Celestial Elves really not having much to say about Aaravos himself despite the Elder theoretically having been around in the days pre imprisonment like
I don't mind that Viren died but I do feel out of my MIND that he and Ezran didn't actually get a conversation, and beyond that that Viren didn't try to pass along any Aaravos information to anyone, and that even if Soren and Viren's relationship was just Maxed Out that we didn't get Opeli and Ezran talking about what to do with him (could've even had Soren walk in and do a Callum S4 moment of 'you ever walk into a room and everyone goes quiet and you know they were talking about you' moment), Opeli reacting/checking on Soren while Viren was imprisoned even if he didn't want to talk to her, there being any verdict about Viren at all and we're never getting anything else out of him again which is why no Ezran and by extension Callum/Rayla/ect feels sort of disappointing to me, as he hasn't interacted with Callum since S1
It's a really good moment, don't get me wrong, but we traded the suspense of thinking Viren had perhaps killed Soren for us getting any last words or gesture from him to Soren face to face
the Celestial Elves gave us info on Startouch Elves in general but not on Aaravos specifically even though the Elder I thought would know more? They aren't surprised at the idea of trying to kill a Great One/Aaravos but there wasn't even a word of warning about if he does get loose or anything Specific about the last time it happened or, if they didn't know anything, confusion about why a Great One is imprisoned like idk
no one had any concern either when getting access to the stars which again, idk, I thought Callum might've been more worried about Aaravos being at the Starscraper and the prison (when he thought he had it) being surrounded by Aaravos's main connection but idk, it didn't matter but I thought it could have
ALSO THE STAVES. HELLO. AT THE STARSCRAPER I JUST
No Aaravos and Callum interaction is also smth I've made my peace about but after the trailer, especially the choice to use that thumbnail for it/as a promo image, idk, I am kind of sad I have to wait until S7 for any of that and now I wonder how significant it can really be/why hes gonna need callum as a puppet now if he's Out and as powerful as he seems to be. we just raised the stakes but had three entire seasons of building towards it, so how can s7 handle getting callum to do dark magic again, theoretical possession/aaravos use, coming back from that, ect, all within 9 eps?
tbh no one really had grief about sir sparklepuff being gone which I guess he wasn't a full Person in anyone's eyes and the focus was all on Claudia/her state which was fine, like we did get some of that nonverbally with Terry at least but we kinda moved right past it. like even one line in ep 9 from terry like "look what he had you do to his most recent child" would have made me go yeah exactly that Mattered but it wasn't there
in addition to no Callum at the wedding Ezran also just sat on Viren being back like idk I guess I wish he'd talked to Amaya more. like I loved him and Aanya I just feel there was room for Both
Listen I'm not one of the people only watching the show for Aaravos and I am delighted with the two episodes we got of him but that he was in more episodes in S3 than in S6 does have me like. cries. really. s4 and s5 i didn't mind in part because I figured stars would be big and it Was but im like oh my god. i got to ep 7 and was like is he REALLY not gonna get out which thankfully he did but only at the end
and the end was like. the biggest cliffhanger we've ever had and i get going for the suspense but it's KILLING ME MAN
I know Aaravos's motivation/goal but not exactly how his actions are leading to that whatsoever as he seems to play every side and doesn't even favor humans if he's willing to torch katolis. unbridled chaos i guess? is that it? I don't even know what to be afraid of next season with him except I'd presume he's going to Xadia next and will Somehow be getting back at the Cosmic Order but idk what the past thousand years have truly been for unless it's waiting around for the stars to align and throwing a fit while doing so
Runaan is out and he and Callum didn't get so much as a sentence between them and that and the Aaravos out but also no conversation double whammy just has me like
PLEASE
at the end of this all this was a more dramatic/cinematic season but it didn't have a lot of the smaller character reaction moments/balance the prior seasons all seemed to give me tbh and it took all season to lead up to highly anticipated events aka letting Runaan and Aaravos out but I didn't get any of the Payoff of that characterwise except for Runaan and Rayla and idk I do feel both like S6 had some of the best moments of the show and also really disappointed in places where it feels like it could have been so easy to have had just a Bit more cohesion and characters plugged into their overarching circumstances/dynamics more
like I think we had the time for it
and going into this expecting a penultimate season and then learning theres a third arc planned, it makes the pacing and lack of aaravos sort of make sense but also has me like, we may not even get that and now I feel like s7 will make or break the Entire show for me which is terrifying
like we got a lot of new info but it was largely not what I was expecting without touching on a lot of stuff I was hoping for and I AGH. i didnt expect this season to continue the build up train and I'm having a hard time accepting that it's the first time tdp has ever like. idk. thrown me such a curveball that it's gotten me honest to god upset which is on me and not the show, and i keep hoping i feel better but so much rides on s7 now

everything, always
(buddie) (778 words) (6x13 spec) surprising absolutely no one, here's some spec based off the new promo!! (aka, another poker fic)
Three minutes and seventeen seconds is… news to Buck, actually. Certainly not something he knew Eddie knew. It’s a long time.
Longer than it takes him to win the first hand, and longer than it took Eddie to convince him to come in the first place. Shorter than the length of time he spent staring at his closet, but longer than he’d spent looking in the mirror after he was dressed.
He loses the next hand; it’s shorter than three minutes and seventeen seconds, too.
Eddie knocks a knee against his and catches his eye, the silent you okay as obvious as the pair Buck’s sure Captain Mehta’s got in his hand, the way he’s betting.
Buck quirks a small smile. I’m fine, he hopes it says.
“What is it with you, anyway,” Chief Williams asks Buck pointedly. “I’ve had more injury paperwork come across my desk for you than just about any other firefighter in the LAFD.”
Mehta snorts. “It’s not just him though, is it? It’s both of them!” He gestures between Eddie and Buck.
Eddie grins, but there’s something sharp along the edges. “Guess we’re just lucky,” he says. He glances at his cards and turns them up. “See?”
The eight and ten combined with what’s already on the table makes a straight, and Eddie takes the pot.
Buck laughs and tosses down the blind before his next two cards are dealt. “I wouldn’t bet against us,” he says, “but feel free to.”
Williams rolls her eyes in a not-unfriendly manner and tosses down a few chips. “Sure, just remind me to keep you two on hose next time I’m IC,” she says.
Eddie bends his cards up, snorts and folds. “You convince him to stay on the ground and I’m not going anywhere,” he says. “Now remind me, who was it that made the ‘no shop talk’ rule?”
Williams laughs. “Touché, Diaz,” she says.
…
“You really cleaned up in there,” Buck says as Eddie climbs into the passenger seat of the Jeep.
“Yeah, well, I told you you didn’t have superpowers,” he replies with a laugh.
“Unless…” Buck says, waggling his brows.
Eddie scoffs. “You absolutely did not let me win.”
Buck shrugs, trying to keep the grin off his face. He didn’t let Eddie win, but he’s not quite ready to let go of his magic math skills.
“Alright, Einstein, if you really were keeping count of everything, how many chips did I walk away with?” he challenges.
Buck pretends to think for a moment. “Enough to buy me a milkshake on the way home?”
Eddie closes his eyes and laughs. “Yeah, I think I could manage that,” he says.
Buck puts the Jeep in reverse and pulls out of the parking lot, headed towards a Shake Shack he knows will be open at least another hour. He glances over at Eddie and finds him looking back, illuminated occasionally by the passing streetlights.
“What?” Buck asks softly.
Eddie shakes his head and turns his attention towards the empty street in front of them. “Nothing,” he replies, just as quiet. “Wondering if strawberry’s still going to be your favorite.”
“I did read that being struck by lightning can alter your taste buds,” Buck says.
“I know,” Eddie says with a small grin, “You told me.”
Another long moment passes, and a thought occurs to Buck. “How’d you know how long I was out?”
Eddie’s head whips back toward him. “What?”
“Three minutes and seventeen seconds,” Buck says. “Everyone else has just been saying three.”
“I counted,” Eddie says haltingly. “From the second I saw you hanging there until the moment I felt your heartbeat. I needed–” He cuts himself off and swallows visibly.
“I’m sorry,” Buck says, turning his attention back to the road. “I shouldn’t have–”
“I needed to know how much of you I had to prepare myself to lose,” Eddie forces out.
“Oh,” Buck says. He glances over and watches Eddie’s jaw work.
“I don’t think I could’ve let them take you if I hadn’t been counting,” Eddie says, so quiet that Buck isn’t sure he’s meant to hear.
Buck bites his lip and scans the road ahead of them for cars before looking back at Eddie again. “Thank you,” he says finally.
“For what?” Eddie asks.
Buck’s not sure how to put it into words, how to synthesize everything he’s been feeling for the last few weeks into one distilled sentence. Eventually, though, he lands on the closest thing he can find. “All of it,” he says. “Everything.”
Eddie looks at him. Buck looks back. After a moment that seems to stretch into eternity, Eddie nods. “Always,” he says.

Shaping Hearts
Osamu Miya x reader
~ Onigiri Miya has a line out the door, but it's owners thoughts are elsewhere.
WC: 1.1K+
a/n: This was a WIP i forgot about posting for Valentines Day...oops
Onigiri Miya seems to be trending on Instagram…again.
When you first set up your boyfriend’s restaurant on social media, you did it just to help him get the word out a bit more and maybe get featured on a few food bloggers' websites, but now thanks to 90% Osamu’s fantastic cooking and about 10% his gorgeousness. The page has gained thousands of followers.
Curiously, check some of the most recent tagged posts and see that Osmau’s usually pristine triangular rice balls are shaped into plump little hearts.
“Cute,” you murmur as you scroll through the pages of aesthetically pleasing rice ball pics. It’s a nice little change for the holiday, but you are confused as to why Osamu hadn’t told you about his little plan earlier, especially since you could’ve made a promo post about it on the account.
But as your cab driver pulls in front of the beloved restaurant, the long line that stems out the door and around the block tells you that Osamu is more than busy enough today.
You pay your cab fare and walk towards the front door of the restaurant past the groups of young people who, from the conversations they are having amongst themselves, are there for much more than the food.
You hear a few people grumbling about how you are walking past the line, but you continue onwards.
Pushing open the doors you slip into the restaurant and feel the warmth of the heating system on your skin. You pass the full tables of people eating their heart shaped onigiri's and talking amongst themselves. Everything feels so homey it warms your heart. This is exactly what Osamu had dreamed of when he first opened Onigiri Miya.
Making your way to the kitchen you open the door slowly so you don't startle your boyfriend. Who is hunched over one of the prep tables, a steaming bowl of rice and a tray of fillings on either side of him.
He scans the tickets as they come in shaping the rice balls and stuffing them with care and smoothing out the little heart shape before sending them off to the pickup counter, despite the crowd his eyes are lidded and he his lips are upturned in a soft smile.
His motions are fluid and practiced, and he softly sings along to the cheesy love song on the radio as he works, Knowing he is in the zone you take the opportunity to surprise him.
“Hey Samu,” you say, sneaking behind the counter and wrapping your arms around his beefy muscles.
“Hey darlin’,” he says shooting you a sleepy smile. “What brings you here? Didn’t ya have plans?”
Nuzzling deeper into his arms you feel the softness of his soft t-shirt on your skin. “I guess I missed you,” you hum, noticing the way his shoulder slump in relaxation. “And we just met for some drinks,”
“Drinks?” he parrots. "It's a bit early for that isn't it?"
"Nope, its after five." you say watching the cute look of confusion on his face.
He curses under his breath and turns his head a bit to glance up at the clock, his tired eyes making out the placement of the tiny hands and shakes his head “There’s no way it’s that late.”
You raise a brow in concern “What time did you think it was?"
He shrugs, "I dunno, it felt like I was still in the lunch rush. I haven't had time to take a breather since I was on the phone with ya.”
"You do have quite the crowd out there." you say giving his shoulder a little squeeze. "Probably because of the little promotion you are doing today."
“Promotion?” he asks, letting that adorable look of confusion take over his features.
You nod, "Yeah, the heart-shaped onigiri you have been making, they are all over Instagram today." you explain gesturing to the tray of little rice hearts on the table.
A pink flush covers his cheeks as he stares down at the balls picking one up carefully. “I-i didn't realize they were hearts.” he mumbles.
Your eyes widen a bit as you look at the man in front of you. "But you have made hundreds of them today, how could you not know?”
He lets out a little chuckle and brings the tray to the counter. "I just...you know... get into the zone when m' cookin."
“Yea, but you’ve never made hearts before.” you tease “What exactly were you thinking about in,” you lift your hands and make little air quotes with your fingers. “‘the zone’”
“Someone special,” he smirks, placing his on your waist and pulling you into his chest and peppering your neck with gentle kisses that tickle your skin. “
Turning your head, his kisses come to land softly on your lips and you smile. “I guess you missed me, too Samu.”
“Obviously,” he grins, his teeth graze his bottom lip and his eyes stare down at you hungrily. Looking all too ready to spend the dinner rush lip locked with you.
And you would’ve let him.
“H-hey, Mr. Miya,” one of the servers stammers from the window, “how are we doing on those tickets?”
“ shit, “he sighs, glancing out of the corner of his eyes to see the influx of tickets that keep getting sent to the kitchen and the line that stretches out the door of the restaurant and around the corner. “I guess I gotta finish these off."
“Probably,” your murmur internally cursing to yourself as he pulls away. “ The only thing worse than a crowd is a hungry crowd.“
“Ya got that right.” He smiles, taking a ticket off the line and scanning its contents. “The sooner I fill these orders, the sooner I get to spend some time alone with ya.”
“What can I do to make that happen sooner?” you ask tilting your head to the side.
“How about you give me a kiss every time I finish a ticket?" he asks, giving you that little lopsided smile that never fails to send butterflies into your stomach.
Glancing at the dozens of tickets that your boyfriend has to go through you nod thinking it sounds like a pretty sweet deal. “I-i can do that.”
“Good, M’ countin on ya.” he smiles and slides a heart shaped onigiri over to you. "Here’s a little somethin to keep yer energy up. We’ve got a long shift ahead of us.
You take a bite of the cute little rice ball with a grateful smile, "It's so good Samu," you beam "I don't know if it's the heart shape, but I can definetly taste the love."
"It's all cause of you darlin'" he smiles "I rice ball ya."
"I rice ball you too," you grin at his corniness and take another bite. And as you feel the love it was cooked with dance on your tongue you prepare to help your boyfriend complete order after order.

authorized (r.r x. r.r drabble)
summary : rhea finds herself in the midst of the tribal chief himself, roman. what will happen? pairing : rhea ripley × roman reigns cw : cursing, kissing, innuendos, blowjob, hair pulling, nicknames, sub/dom dynamic a/n : just something small i came up with after watching rhea's promo and as much as i wanna see them feud i can't help but imagine how unstoppable they would be together and how much they'd bicker. x) reblogs are very much appreciated! word count : 716 words tag list : @harmshake
"acknowledge me." the aussie's voice echoed throughout the hallway, a familiar phrase only voiced by the tribal chief himself, few having dared to defy him and failed.
rhea wasn't one to back down from a fight, staring down every single member of the bloodline and spearing them in the process. paul heyman being the only person in her way before her true target, roman reigns.
phone in hand, he dialed up the samoan's number as rhea shook her head with a tsk falling from her dark lips, "i'll do it myself. don't even know why roman keeps you around anyways. you're a useless manager." she yanked the phone from his hands not even caring if she hurt him in the process, fingers pressing down harshly on the keys.
"i'm gonna' bloody kill him! he doesn't mess with dom dom or anyone else for that matter-" rhea was fuming, pacing around the bloodline's locker room which jd had taken over earlier that night, dom was supposed to have matching attire but somehow roman convinced heyman to do his dirty work.
"you wouldn't dare to lay a single hand on heyman, doll. not when i can have those sharp nails wrapped around my neck or proving to the world that mami isn't always on top."
rhea clearly couldn't see roman on the other side of the phone but with how he spoke was with a smirk, smug in tone.
she decided to play along with his so called game, having nothing better to do for the night and get payback for earlier. little did rhea know he was on a jet to see her right now.
"in your nightmares, ro ro. on top no matter the circumstance, bet you're wantin' people to acknowledge you in order to compensate for somethin' else, hm?" rhea had venom in her tone, taunting the samoan with each word however she became more comfortable, laying back against the sofa as she chatted it up more with him, paul making his own quiet leave.
"wouldn't you like to know, sweetheart? good thing you won't have to wait long-" the handle turned and a tall, dark-toned, raven-haired man opened up the door.
rhea jumped up from the sofa, staring daggers into his brown hues. being a few inches shorter than roman the aussie hoped to still intimidate him but roman flashed that shit-eating grin he always did.
instead of it making her stomach turn like usual, it did something else... made rhea press her legs together which roman was quick to take notice.
"look at mami now.. not so immune to me when the tribal chief is infront of her - be a good girl and let daddy take care of you.."
rhea cackled at the man, laughing so hard to the point her ribs hurt and had to catch her breath, "you, my daddy? i'm a grown ass woman, ro. don't need your pencil dick." she scrunched her nose trying to ignore the growing wetness between her legs.
rhea gnawed upon her lower lip, causing some of the black lipstick to smear as she kept eye contact with roman, a few moments passing before they finally pulled one another into a heated kiss battling each other for dominance.
they eventually reached a wall, in which rhea had roman pinned up against it, he could easily reverse her but relished in the fact of being submissive for the woman.
rhea lowered herself as she tugged on his gym shorts and boxers, his exposed length springing free as drool threatened to escape her dark lips, "tell anyone about this and i'll actually kill you."
her lips parted making an "o" shape as her tongue teased the tip of his cock circling it before making way on more of his length, taking it in as roman leaned his head back letting out groans of pleasure.
"that's it, mami." he hummed and reached down to tug at her raven hair before rhea took him deeper, roman starting to thrust his hips against her throat.
"do you acknowledge me now?" he asked with a smirk.
"i acknowledge youmff-" her words were muffled due to having her mouth wrapped around roman's cock, but she was sure he got the point and him calling her mami was icing on the literal cake.

Tired - Malakai Black
Pairing: Malakai Black x fem!reader
Word Counter: 1k+
Warning: a swear word.
masterlist \ wrestling masterlist
It wasn't often you got any sleep. Traveling on the road for 85% of the year was bound to have you tired, especially when you couldn't fall asleep on your flight. Being a full-time wrestler and the manager for the House of Black was not for the weak. Those boys, although reserved and quiet, were quite needy.
They didn't have anyone to train with despite there being 3 guys in a group? Manager steps in. Oh, all three guys wanted to train together, but it's an odd number and they needed to even it out? There you are. Buddy was giving Malakai and Brody a headache? Sure he can bunk with you and Julia, but only for that night. The good thing about Julia was she never nagged you for small stuff. Although being the youngest, she was very much independent.
Today was filming day for Dark and Dynamite. Julia had a match on Dark, you had a segment for Dynamite, meetings for you and Julia, and the boys had a match on Dynamite during the main event. The day was full of stuff for you to pay attention to. You thanked the wrestling gods you didn't have a match today.
You and Julia got right to work as soon as you came to the arena, the boys coming later (hoping Buddy doesn't make them late). The first three hours included hair and make-up, outfit change for your promo and Julia's match, going to film your segment, Julia's meeting, your meeting then out to the ring for Julia's match. Although you didn't have to worry about the boys, you were tired already. Walking into the House of Black locker room you let out a sigh expecting no one to be in there, but there was Malakai sitting on the back couch being a creep as always.
"You okay boss?" He asked as you sat beside him leaning your head back to stare at the ceiling.
"Yeah, first time I sat and relaxed in three hours. Actually no I need to respond to emails." Malakai could see the evident tiredness on your face and in your voice. He felt bad that you were worrying about them, even though it's your job too.
"The other two are in catering, you have peace and quiet now." He reassured.
"I'm lucky you're the one in here and not Buddy or Julia. They have so much energy."
"Well, I'll be here in quietness. We have two hours to kill before we go out." He squeezed your thigh in reassurance. Something you didn't know would help you relax.
"Mhmm. Thank you."
After 10 minutes went by Malakai didn't notice any movement from you. Not your fingers typing away or you fixing your hair for the millionth time. He suddenly felt a weight on his shoulders. Looking down he found you asleep. Your phone hanging out of your hand. Never did you fall asleep randomly only occurring if you were really tired.
Were you going to beat yourself up over this? Yes. Was he going to wake you? No. You needed the sleep. He knew the group wasn't easy to handle and he admired you for taking the role of manager for them along with being a full-time wrestler. Not once did you stop and complain. Did you yell at them, yeah sure but what manager wouldn't?
A little over an hour passed, and soon all of you were due to be out for the main event. Everyone was ready except you. It was a wonder you didn't wake up while everyone was getting ready. Sure did Malakai send a death stare to anyone who entered the door, yeah, but it worked out in the end. Julia even offered to do his face paint for the night so he didn't have to move and possibly wake you. She secretly found it cute, but would not tell that to your faces.
"You should wake her up. She's gonna have our necks if she doesn't get changed and we don't stretch." Brody said making Malakai hum in agreement.
"Darling....come on, you're going to kill us if you don't wake up." You heard the faint voice of Malakai. You also felt him run his hands through the hair that was in your face.
"Hmmh. What the hell, did I fall asleep." You suddenly said lifting your head off his shoulder. The action caused you to feel dizzy. Immediately Malakai's hand went to the small of your back for support.
"Out like a light. We all got ready and you didn't even stir a bit." Buddy said making you groan.
"We got 45 minutes. You should get changed and I can touch up your makeup ." Julia said giving you a smile before heading to the bathroom to see what products she had to do touchups. The make-up artists were probably cleaning up their stations and were ready to hit the road. You would look like an asshole if you'd asked for a touch-up.
"You're all going to get it. Go stretch." You groan making your way to the clothes you had hanging for the night.
"Especially you. I can't believe you let me sleep on you for a full hour. Now you're going to be tense. You better not get injured during the match." You found Malakai's eyes as he was changing into his attire for the night.
"Do you forget that we practically live on planes? That nap was nothing."
"We'll see." You called out before making your way into the bathroom.
Forty-Five minutes seemed to pass by in an instant. Before you knew it, you were waiting in the gorilla with everyone. You studied the guys' movements to make sure they stretch properly, particularly Malakai. He saw you looking and gave you a little smirk and wink, already knowing what was going through your head.
"Showtime." You heard Buddy say motioning to your and Julia's cue.
The match went great for the House of Black. All the guys had good spots, the crowd was still engaged despite having to watch two shows, and in the end, the guys won. Making your way up the ramp you felt Malakai drape his arm around your neck. You looked up and saw that he gave you a little smirk.
"Think you could give me a neck rub, I seemed to be a little tense." He said making you roll your eyes with a smirk creeping on your face.
"You're impossible."

Jinpine Radio #5
Long time no Jin! Translation of the radio segment from his official YouTube channel. Original video here. Done on commission!
The livestream starts with a whole minute of nothing but clicking. Jin and Inpine’s avatars have some... modifications on them. An indication that this episode will be just a lot of fooling around. It always is, but this time it’s on purpose.
Inpine suddenly starts singing and Jin can’t hold back a laugh. Yes, they’re doing a skit again and they just ruined the surprise.
Inpine: Strolling is so fun! The air’s so good in the countryside! Aah! Such nice weather! Haaah! Oh? There’s a yellow video tape lying around in the middle of nowhere! *high-pitched screaming* Must be some pervert’s tape! Guess I’m gonna watch it using my uncle’s VCR! Now, now, now, video tape goes in! Clank, clank, clank! Press plaaay!
[some weird-ass noise effects]
Inpine: Transformation!! (T/N: the word used for “transformation” here is “henshin”, which is the title of Jin’s latest song at the time of this livestream)
[background music blasts on]
Jin: *clears throat with the most monstrous, alien-sounding voice filter ever* All right! Guess Imma go around doing evil stuff for one more day! *villain laughter*
Inpine: Ah! There you are! Sea monster Jin! Your days of wrongdoing are over!
Jin: Who’re you?!
Inpine: Ora, ora, ora! I’m a hero of justice, Inpine!
Jin: “Inpine”, you say?! Come at me with all you have!!
Inpine: Gimme back my pervy tape! Take this! Inpine puuunch!!
Jin: Stop! That hurts! S-Stop!!
Inpine: Inpine Kick!!
Jin: He got meee!
[music stops]
Inpine: Jin, Hatsune Miku. “Henshin”. You can listen to it on YouTube and NicoNico Douga—
Jin: Pffft!
Inpine: It’s out right now. Please support us.
As the skit ends, Jin does the usual greeting and introduces himself, then passes the baton to Inpine and does a little bit of promo for his song and its MV. Inpine feigns ignorance to the fact that the MV was also out, even though he was literally the one who made it along with Sayuki. Jin then announces the guests of this episode: the bassist Natsume Yuuki and the drummer Janku (Junk), who played as support musicians for “Henshin”. Jin adds that he’d also wanted to invite Saiyuki for this one, but admits that he and Inpine wouldn’t have been able to handle more than two guests at once. The figurines on Jin and Inpine’s avatars represent Natsume and Janku.
They’ll be discussing music this time around. Jin starts it out by talking about “Henshin”, giving some fun facts about its conception:
Jin had already worked with Natsume before, but this was his first time working with Janku
Jin and Natsume are actually quite close and Jin calls him “Nacchi”
It was the peak of summer when he received the proposal to write the song, so he didn’t want to do it at first (as mentioned in the previous livestream, the rainy season and summer are the worst times of the year for him)
He reconsidered it, because summer is also a time of the year when he feels like listening to fast-beat songs
He jokes that when he contacted Inpine about it, the latter “emerged from the shadows” asking, “Mister, Mister, I’m sniffing the smell of a new song in the air. You called?”
By then, Jin had already decided that he wanted insects to be the theme (specifically, insects that are omnipresent during Japanese summer, such as cicadas and moths)
After this, Jin personally contacted Natsume and Janku to play with him
Now, Jin knows that the listeners might be at loss about the guests, as it’s their first time there, so he also gives some trivia about how he met them. He got to know both of them through a common friend and they first met through an app. The name of the app was not revealed, but it’s used by musicians for remote music sessions.
Jin then asks the guests to talk about what they’d been working on recently. Natsume was doing usual bassist work. He plays for all sorts of artists and even does livestream concerts. He also makes clothes as a hobby. The first time he played with Jin was during his livestream with Peanuts-kun.
Janku’s work life is pretty much the same as Natsume’s, the only difference being the instrument he plays. He uploads his performances to social media every now and then.
Jin explains that the reason why he wanted to work with them for “Henshin” was that they were very loud players and the beat of their sound was exceptional. He describes it as a “pang-pang” kind of sound and jokes that he made the request by asking them, “Please lend me your pang-pang!”, to which they replied with, “Guess we got no choice”.
Back to the topic of the song itself, Jin dives into the production:
The making of this song was different from usual in many aspects, starting with the fact that they didn’t have lots of meetings to decide on things
No studio was used for the demo
The composition was made entirely without recordings
The sessions were held at Natsume’s and Janku’s homes
In order to test out what kind of sound would fit the song best, Janku spent a whole day on a call with Jin, playing the drum for him to listen
Once they reached the intensity that Jin wanted, Janku started working on the base melody by himself, sending samples for Jin to listen to and approve
Janku was very worried about whether or not he’d manage to make the melody sound “Jin-like”, but Jin was pretty satisfied with the result
When Jin asks Janku how he felt while working on the song, Janku says he had a lot of fun and that the sound felt rather nostalgic to him, for some reason – even though it was a newly produced melody, it felt like something he had already heard somewhere before
Jin asks Natsume the same question and he answers that, although he’s taken part in the songs of so many people, there was never one that he felt so much like playing, and asserts that that there’s something inherently grotesque about it, which Jin agrees with (because of course he would)
When Jin and Natsume listened to Janku’s drums, it was like a wake-up call for them – they realized that they were lagging behind him, and went all-out in order to catch up
Jin comments that Natsume did some pretty nasty stuff with his bass and thanked him for it (this is obviously meant to sound ambiguous because Jin just Be Like That, but he’s referring to the sound that Natsume produced with his bass, not... anything else)
Natsume played in a way that didn’t match the drums at all, on purpose
He took the liberty to do that without receiving any instructions for it, and instead of feeling disrespected, Jin thinks it was a genius move
The only thing Jin asked him to do was to “make it gross”
Jin believed that Natsume was confident he could take on the job, but in reality, Natsume was at a loss back then
When he asked Jin what he wanted specifically, all he got as an answer was a “Pleeease!”
After he got samples of Natsume’s “gross play”, Jin sent it to Inpine, who replied on LINE, “Wow! This sounds so disgusting! It’s the best thing ever!”
Finally came the time to add the guitar to the demo, but even on the previous night, Jin was very much at a loss as to how to go on about it, so he texted Natsume about it
Natsume says the message looked like Jin was saying his last words, as he decided to start out with a totally unsuspecting and not at all dramatic “It is time for me to go”
Jin explains he had no choice but give his utmost after the other two had delivered such fine performances
On the day he was supposed to play, he announced that he would do it without any clothes on, “I can’t give my all with clothes on. Sorry. It was wrong of me to try to do that before. Sorry for trying to wear clothes. I’m gonna do this butt-naked.”
Up to this point, he had been playing while seated on a chair, but this time, he “had to stand up” and began playing after screaming, “TAKE THIS!!”
While playing, he accidentally hit his guitar against the wall... thrice
This was a brand-new guitar and that was his first time using it
When he got to the outro, he went batshit without hesitation
He wanted to have recorded himself playing naked, so that he could send it to his mother with the caption, “This is the work you’ve made”
After listening to this demo, Inpine got the idea of doing a rewind in the MV
He did that before the song itself was ready, and the rewind just so happened to match it perfectly
Jin didn’t want this to be a “good” song, so to speak – he wanted the listeners to feel uncomfortable and sickened by it
He requested the sound engineers to add a “pang-pang” beat to the finished product
Jin says he really did something terrible in making that song and laughs at the fact that he hasn’t offered a single word of praise to it
Inpine jokes that even “Hatsune-san” would find the song repulsive (yes, this is meant as a compliment)
Jin writes a lot of songs in the summer because it’s “a season in which not everything is all beauty”
Inpine says that the refreshing summer that everyone has in their minds only happens for a couple hours in early morning, while the rest of the day is all about fighting against a scorching heat under the dark, dark shadows cast from the overwhelming sunlight – that’s why he decided to make the MV’s color palette jewel-toned and somber
Jin bought all sorts of effectors to produce the sound he wanted for the song, which cost him 30K yen in total, and he was in shock when checking on how much he had spent
He hoped everyone listening to the livestream would go watch the MV, as it cost him a whole lot of money
He wanted “Henshin” to sound like a time slip back to one’s old self
(T/N: This doesn’t really translate in summary format, but when they were talking about the song, there was an endless number of jokes involving the “pang-pang” thingy.)
At this point, Jin realizes that they’d been talking about music for the near entirety of the livestream. It was expected, since the two were the first musician guests of the channel, and as such, Jin was aware that it'd be fine to just talk about music, but he also wanted to have a lighthearted chit-chat. He asked Janku the day before about ideas for topics, which they couldn't decide on, so they decided to roll the dice. What they got as a result was something that, according to Janku, would’ve turned the livestream into a broadcast disaster. Jin then asks the others if they had any topics they wanted to discuss and Inpine says that’s the scariest way possible to pass the baton.
Natsume decides to answer the question first and Inpine is thankful that he’s able to take it forward from there, saying that Natsume “really is very capable”. Jin asks if he can go ahead and “eat the squid”, implying that they have snacks with them, and everyone agrees that they should eat first. While Natsume talks, there are sounds of plastic bags being ripped open in the background. These guys are a mess.
Natsume talks about a time not so long ago where he was sick and had to lie down in bed for days. He was bored out of his mind because he was allowed to do nothing but rest, so he decided to binge some anime. He wanted to watch something long and that he had never watched before, and as if on cue, he saw that Togashi Yoshihiro had created a Twitter account. This reminded him that he had actually never watched HunterxHunter, so he’d been binging it, and the day that the “Henshin” MV came out was exactly the day that he began the chimera ant arc. He felt that this was fate at work. When he saw the MV, he was like, “Whoa! That’s chimera ants right there! Inpine-san!?”
Inpine is a little embarrassed at this, because he had the feeling that they’d been making “Henshin” together all the way. He really thought that he’d been sharing with them the whole process of the video making, but in fact, the musicians were in the dark about most of it.
On the topic of the MV, Inpine admits that he doesn’t like insects and that he was put-off when finding out that insects would be the theme. He confesses that, because of this, he kind of avoided the insect element in the video, up till the latter half of it. He says that, back when he was making the video, he was driving down the street one night and had to open the window to see what was ahead of him. Turns out that what was blocking his vision was a swarm of moths. According to him, the swarm was covering the road for about 200 meters, and he couldn’t close the window in time. About three moths got inside the car, which had him shrieking like a little girl, “Nooo! Why does this kinda thing always happen to me!?”
Jin: And then you got bitten by a radioactive moth!
Inpine: Yeah, yeah, yeah! And then “Henshin”! I transformed!
Inpine says the moths were dead on his dashboard the next morning. He decided to observe them, which helped him finally grasp the concept and the feel of “Henshin”. He says that this, in a way, was his chimera ant arc. Natsume jokes that the experience might as well have broken him.
Jin says that, when writing the lyrics of “Henshin”, he thought about his kindergarten years a lot. “Henshin” is a song about the things people deem beautiful and the things they deem disgusting. People usually have weird tastes when they’re still little kids, and when Jin was in kindergarten, he was even weirder. There was a corner for hanging coats at his nursery school, and he used to sit there the whole day, just playing with the keyboard harmonica. Everyone could tell that he was one hell of a weirdo. He adds that Inpine, his first-ever friend, was just as weird. After all, he used to draw nothing but cars all the time. Jin says that this thing they used to do, throwing away their concern with what people would think of them, was his inspiration for making “Henshin”. A representation of early childhood summer, much like everything else Jin has ever made.
It is here that, at long freaking last, Jin decides to talk about the wallpaper for this livestream. He says he and Inpine made it together and everyone agrees that it’s “too damn gross”. It’s pretty obvious that it was made exclusively for that one livestream, since Natsume’s picture has moth antennas.
The group suddenly sobers up when Jin says that making this song with them was very fun and he hopes to make more with them in the future. Both Natsume and Janku are very flattered and agree to it on the spot. This heartwarming moment only lasts for a little bit, until Natsume remembers a good thing that happened recently. He starts talking about his experience going to a sauna, where he felt so refreshed that it was almost like the air he’d been breathing up to that point wasn’t real air. After he was done, he went outside, threw himself on a sunlounger and “entrusted his body to the sunlight”. According to him, it was the best feeling ever and everyone should go to a sauna at least once. The other three joke that maybe Natsume is actually an insect. Inpine says he likes sleeping inside his car in the parking lot after going to the sauna, affirming that it’s “the best way to wake up”.
The topic turns into what to do in the next livestreams, and Jin says once again that he wants to play games in the upcoming episodes. Janku says he’s pretty good at Gartic Phone and Natsume agrees that playing it with him is pretty funny. Jin says he’s seen Janku playing the game before – he saw him drawing a playground slide, except he also drew both himself and Jin sliding down on it. Natsume and Inpine lose it. Jin says he’d love to play with the three of them, plus Saiyuki. All of them agree that Saiyuki would be the strongest at it.
Time comes for them to end the livestream. Jin once again talks about making songs with these members in the future. He also talks about keeping eyes open to announcements on Twitter and asks the listeners to tell everyone they can about “Henshin”, even people sitting next to them at train stations.
The way they say goodbye in this episode is a tad... different from usual.
Jin: This has been Jin...
Inpine: ...Inpine, whose favorite food is beef tongue...
Natsume: ...Natsume Yuuki, whose f-favorite drink is Gogo no Koucha Oishii Mutou... (T/N: That’s the actual name of a bottled tea brand.)
Janku: ...and Janku, whose favorite drink is Boss’s café au lait.
Jin: That’s it!
All: That’s iiit! *whistles and weird voices* Byeee~!

For those who work behind the scenes of the music industry, management and coordination was a job that never had any downtime. This goes double in the late winter to early spring months when preparations for the summer tours start to go into full swing.
As late spring transitioned into early summer, Eddie Munson’s life consisted mainly of rehearsals, wardrobe fittings and guest appearances promoting their spot on the upcoming ‘96 Warped Tour. Luckily, the promo spots and interviews were all filmed locally, giving Corroded Coffin a break from traveling for a couple of months.
Now that he had an idea of what life on a major tour like that was going to be like, Eddie found himself slowing down a bit as late spring turned into early summer. While he still went out and enjoyed all the nightlife benefits that came along with his growing fame, he found himself spending an equal amount of time at home. It was nice sometimes just staying in with the quiet comforts of home.
But even on the nights that Eddie found himself staying in by himself at his condo, he wasn’t truly alone. Once you helped him figure out how to put his handset on speaker phone, it felt like you were right there with him in a way.
For two people that hadn’t spoken in close to thirteen years at the time of your reunion, it felt as if no time at all had passed. The only difference between then and now was, now neither of you would get yelled at for staying up too late on the phone. The friendship was easily restarted, you both completely comfortable with each other right out the gate. Once again, you became that person he told his every idea and thought too.
Well. Not every thought.
But there was no point in voicing those particular things since he knew you didn’t feel that way about him. You didn’t before he was a rockstar and he knew that certainly hadn’t changed your feelings about him now. In a way, that was a relief knowing his fame hadn’t changed you any, but at the same time, that just made his own feelings for you a little bit deeper.
As early summer went on and it got closer to the start of the Warped Your, it also got closer to Jesse’s second birthday.
In the months leading up to it, you began working a lot more at your job, staying later every night than you normally would for the extra hours. Eddie couldn’t help but to start getting worried after a while when you sounded more and more exhausted every time he called.
“And you’re positive I’m not the one keeping you up?” he asked you one night, wanting to make sure you weren’t keeping yourself up just to keep him amused.
It was a little after midnight when Eddie called you this time, not late for either of you by any means. While you assured him you simply couldn’t sleep, you sounded like you were about to fall over at any minute.
“Seriously, I’m positive,” you said, your voice tinged with the lazy drawl of tiredness. “Don’t worry, baby. When I get sleepy enough to go to bed, I’ll let you know.”
It wasn’t the first time you had slipped and called him a pet name when you were really tired, and even sometimes when you were really excited. But every time it did, Eddie’s heart always skipped a few beats. He didn’t think you even realized what you said, so he let it go just like he always did.
“Alright, sweetheart,” he said, swallowing and hoping his voice didn’t sound as shaky as he felt. “As long as you’re sure. You never said why they’re making you work so many hours. They shorthanded or something?”
“We are shorthanded, but overtime is always voluntary,” you said. “I’ve been picking up the extra hours to pay for Jesse’s birthday.”
“Doesn’t Scoot or whatever his name is help with any of that?” Eddie asked. “I know he isn’t in his life, but doesn’t the child support help any?”
There was a sudden burst of surprised laughter from your end of the phone. Eddie raised a brow, not expecting that reaction.
“He can’t pay child support if he has no income,” you said. “He doesn’t work thanks to his girlfriend footing the bill for everything. That’s why I called her his sugar mama.”
“So, he’s just between jobs then?” Eddie asked.
“No, he doesn’t work on purpose, so he doesn’t have to pay child support.”
Eddie was stunned. While it wasn’t a story he hadn’t heard before, even his own dad cut out on paying child support to Uncle Wayne, it still surprised him every time he heard it. He didn’t understand how people could just not care if their children were provided for or not.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart,” he said, not really knowing what else to say. “That really fucking sucks.”
“Eh,” you said, and he could almost hear you shrugging. “It is what it is.”
“Yeah, but that don’t make it suck any less.”
“No, no it doesn’t,” you agreed, chuckling.
There was a small, comfortable lapse in the conversation as Eddie got ready for bed. He could hear the television playing softly in the background on your side but couldn’t quite hear it well enough to tell what it was.
“Is Jesse excited about his birthday?” Eddie asked once he’d finished brushing his teeth.
“Not really,” you chuckled. “He’s a little young to get the concept yet. But he’ll go ape shit when he sees his grandparents, the cake and the presents.”
“Oh, I bet,” he said, chuckling. “Which one will excite him the most.”
“Probably his grandparents,” you said. “They retired out to Chicago a couple months back to be closer to family. I know he misses them, he used to see them several times a week.”
Eddie blinked at that a few times.
“For real?” he asked. “Huh. I never would’ve guessed your old man would retire out of state.”
“Oh, no, this is Scott’s parents,” you explained. “Mine still live here.”
“Huh,” Eddie said, blinking again as he walked from the bathroom to his bedroom. “Isn’t that kinda awkward?”
“Not at all,” you said, yawning. “Bill and Diane are awesome people. They were just as surprised as I was when Scott ran off.” Then you chuckled. “Diane still calls me her daughter in law.”
Now Eddie really blinked in surprise at that.
“Wait, I thought you said you guys didn’t get married?”
“We didn’t,” you said. “But everyone just kinda figured we would since we’d been together for so long, especially once I got pregnant.”
“That makes sense,” Eddie said, pacing around the bedroom like he did sometimes while on the phone. “Is that what you wanted?”
There was a long pause before you answered.
“I guess at the time I figured that would happen eventually,” you finally said.
“That doesn’t answer my question, sweetheart,” he said. “I asked what it was that YOU wanted.”
There was another pause now, a shorter one.
“Huh,” you said, then chuckled. “You know, no one’s ever asked me that before.”
“It’s your life, sweetheart,” Eddie said. “You should get a say in it.”
“True,” you said. “Well. Let me think.”
There was yet another pause, a much longer one this time.
“I guess it would’ve been nice to share it all with someone,” you finally said, sighing.
While Eddie wasn’t exactly sure what you meant, he found himself not wanting to ask. But while he was trying to think of what to say in order to lighten the mood, you continued with your thoughts.
“I guess it kinda feels like I got screwed out doing it properly. Having a loving man that will rub my belly, get me ice cream at three in the morning. You know, the whole experience you see in the movies.
A slight twinge of sadness had crept into your voice, one he hadn’t ever heard from you.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart,” Eddie said, once again not knowing what else to say.
“It is what it is,” came your reply, again with the shrugging tone.
“But that doesn’t make it-“ Eddie started to say.
“Suck any less,” you said along with him, then chuckled. “Yeah, I know, trust me.”
Finally feeling the excess energy winding down, Eddie crawled into his bed and lay back so he was propped up against the headboard.
It felt like a good time for a topic change.
“What all have you got planned for the birthday boy?” he asked.
“Not a whole lot, really,” you said. “Just a small barbecue here at the. My friend Gina is bringing this flower sprinkler head thing that her kids love, so everyone is probably going to end up soaked by the end of it.”
The idea of a small get together like that made Eddie smile. It had been a long time since he’d been to one of those.
“That sounds really awesome,” he said. “When’s the party?”
“June 15th,” you said. “His birthday fell on a Saturday this year, so we’re getting to have his party on the actual day.”
“Sweet,” he said, grinning. “That means I still got time to get something and gave it sent over.”
“Ba-Eddie, you don’t have to do that,” you said.
Eddie’s heart skipped a beat at your near slip.
“I know I don’t have to, but I want to,” he said, chuckling. “What’s Jesse into?”
“Not anything too specific, really,” you said, chuckling. “He loves Sesame Street, can’t stand Barney for some reason. Jesse will scream if he even sees him.”
“I can understand that one,” Eddie said. “So do I.”
This sent you into a giggling fit. He smiled as he listened to you.
“Outside of that, he loves trains and blocks,” you said once you’d calmed down. “Especially those big Duplo ones by Lego. He’s going to be a Lego fiend when’s he older, I can already see it.”
“You say that like it’s a bad thing,” Eddie said, laughing.
“Yes and no,” you said. “No, because I love Lego’s too. Yes, because they are expensive as hell.”
Eddie couldn’t help but feel a little bad then. Even though he didn’t have to worry about price tags anymore, it occasionally slipped his mind that others weren’t as fortunate as he was now. He remembered all too well what it was like scraping the bottom of the barrel to get by like you were doing now.
“True,” he said. “That’s a good list to choose from, so I’ll see what I can find.”
“Just don’t go too over the top,” you said. “Remember, he’s just going to be two. He’s not even going to remember any of this in a few years.”
As both the birthday party and the start of the tour drew closer, Eddie’s late-night calls came less and less frequently. This was to be expected though. His schedule was ramping up with all of the last minute preparations that needed his input. With as much as you were working and as tired as you were, you really only had the time before bed to think about him.
It was somewhere in this timeframe that you began to realize just how much you missed Eddie on those nights he didn’t call. It was easy to get used to hearing from him as a part of your nightly routine on those stretches where he called you nearly every night. But during the periods where you didn’t hear from his as much, it felt like something was missing.
By the time Jesse’s birthday rolled around, you had completely forgotten about Eddie’s promise to send a present. You were so busy, it slipped your mind. Nothing had shown up by the day of the party itself, and your morning was filled with last minute cleaning and decorating, which you were nearly done with when people started arriving around noon. Not long after your parents arrived, your mom shooed you away from everything so you could enjoy the party with your son.
As predicted, Jesse was absolutely ecstatic to see his grandparents after so long.
Also as predict, by the time everyone sat down for Jesse to open presents, all of the kids and most of the adults had been soaked by the flower sprinkler. You all sat around the patio area, drying off under the hot sun as your son started tearing into his first present.
Shortly after he got that first gift opened, you heard the doorbell go off inside the house. Your friend David hopped up to go answer it so the two of you could continue with the presents. He was only gone for a little bit before you heard a loud, shrill scream coming from inside the house.
The conversations among the group stopped as everyone looked towards the backdoor of your house, curious expressions on everyone’s faces, including yours.
A few moments later, David came back outside, red faced and looking shocked, followed shortly afterwards by none other than Eddie Munson himself.
Your jaw dropped in surprise, then you quickly glanced around at the assembled group.
It wasn’t a surprise to see recognition on your parents faces since Eddie hadn’t changed much since his high school days outside of having a few more tattoos. He looked like he always did in warm weather, still wearing his trademark torn jeans, a faded band t shirt and well-worn sneakers. Your dad was starting to wave at him as let your gaze swept to your friends.
Since you weren’t close to anyone from high school anymore, none of your old friends were present, but you could see a few of your friends knew of Corroded Coffin and knew who Eddie was. It was all over their faces. Jaws dropped; eyes widened. They looked back and forth at each other as if to make sure they weren’t seeing things.
Your eyes swept back over to Eddie just in time to lock eyes with him across the patio. He broke into a bright smile that made your heart flutter.
“Hey, sweetheart!” he said as he headed over to where you were sitting with Jesse with a big, brightly wrapped box tucked under one arm. “I’m so sorry I’m late! I was supposed to be here hours ago, but the two-hour layover in Chicago turned into a six-hour delay.”
Once he’d reached you two, he added his box to the stack of presents for Jesse and leaned down to kiss you on the cheek.
“W-What are you doing here, Eddie?” you finally managed to ask as he tickled Jesse’s cheek affectionately. “I thought you only came in town at Christmas?”
At the moment, Jesse didn’t even seem to notice Eddie touch him because he was so preoccupied with the noisy, light up toy he just unwrapped.
“Usually, yeah,” he said, then smiled softly as he looked from Jesse to you. “But something important came up and I wanted to drop by.”
There was no point in even trying to fight the blush that rose up in your face at his words. Or, rather, your words, but they sounded so much better coming from him.
After a few seconds of gazing into each other’s eyes, a blush started to rise up in Eddie’s cheeks as well and you both broke eye contact to look down at Jesse at the exact same moment.
“Anyway!” he said, quickly standing up and turning to the group with a wave. “Sorry for interrupting! Carry on everyone, I’ll be nice and quiet. You won’t even know I’m here!”
Your dad barked with good natured laughter at that one.
“I highly doubt that, Eddie!” he said through his laughter. “The day you’re quiet will be the day you’re dead! Now, get over here and have a beer with me.”
Once Eddie had gotten settled in with the small group, half of which kept sneaking disbelieving glances over to where he sat at the patio table with your dad, you got Jesse’s attention back on the pile of presents he had left. It was a bit slow going since he was fascinated by every toy he unwrapped, especially the picture on the box of the zoo animal train set that Eddie got him, but eventually he got through them all.
As your mom and Diane began clearing away the wrapping paper, you looked up at the group to thank everyone for the presents and saw some of them were nearly vibrating out of their skin from excitement by this point.
Time to address the elephant in the room.
Or, rather, the rock star on your patio.
“Hey everyone!” you said just loud enough to get their attention, then lowered your voice to its normal range. “I’d like you all to meet my best friend, Eddie Munson.”
Now your friends looked really shocked hearing that proclamation, except for Gina, who knew all about Eddie and the late night phone calls. However, she still looked as surprised as you still felt by his appearance.
Eddie grinned and waved at everyone.
“Hey guys!” he said brightly. “It’s really nice to meet you all.”
At this point, Jesse was moving his attention from one toy to another and heard the familiar voice. His head snapped up and he looked around.
“Eggy?”
The smile on Eddie’s face was so bright it melted your heart.
“Hey little man!” he said from across the patio. “Happy Birthday!”
For the next forty-five minutes, the party was put on hold while Eddie was swamped by his fans amongst the small group. While some of your friends didn’t know who he was initially, they were interested once they found out. He didn’t mind at all. Autographs were given and photos were taken.
And, in every single photo Eddie posed for, he was holding Jesse. Once your son had finally figured out his friend Eggy was here, live and in person, he refused to let Eddie put him down. Any attempt to try, or to hand him over to you even, resulted in a screaming Jesse. Your friends were perfectly fine with this.
Due to how long the delay in Chicago took, Eddie didn’t get to stay as long as either of you would’ve liked. He was able to stay for some grilled hotdogs and cake, but shortly after that, he had to call a cab to take him back to the airport.
The cab arrived in less than five minutes, much to the dismay of both of you, signaling it was there with a few taps of the horn.
“That was fucking fast,” you muttered as you walked Eddie to the front door.
“Tell me about it,” he said, shaking his head as he followed you out onto the front porch. “I’m pretty sure he set a record there.”
The two of you walked down the steps to the sidewalk and stopped, turning to face each other.
“I still can’t believe you came all this way just for a few hours,” you said, shaking your head with a smile.
“I said I’d come back if something important comes you,” he said, smiling at you as he looked into your eyes. “And Jesse’s birthday is definitely important.”
You found yourself speechless for the second time today by his words, and you felt another blush coming to your cheeks. The two of you were standing quite close to one another, though not quite touching. His gaze left yours then to lower from your eyes down to your lips.
Now your heart was racing as you found yourself looking down at his mouth. You were just in time to see the tip of his tongue run along his bottom lip.
Suddenly, you had a moment of courage and reached up to rest your hands on his shoulders. At the same time you felt the fabric of his t shirt under your palms, Eddie’s hands came to a rest on your hips.
Just as he started to tilt his head down to yours, the cabbie honked the horn several times, scaring you both and making you instantly break apart, as if you were both teenagers getting caught making out.
You looked at each other and both of you laughed nervously.
“You better get going,” you said, smiling but feeling sad at the same time. “Sounds like he’s about ready to leave without you.”
“Yeah,” Eddie said, sighing before he pulled you in for a hug. “I don’t know when I’ll get the chance to call you again. From what they tell me, the Warped Tour is going to be even worse schedule wise than the White Zombie tour.”
This made you feel a soft pang in your chest. It wouldn’t be unexpected to not hear from him for the duration of the tour, but that didn’t mean you had to like it.
“I figured as much,” you said against his shoulder, your arms around his waist. “As dumb as this might sound, I’m going to miss you.”
Eddie’s arms tightened around you and he kissed the top of your head.
“Not dumb at all, sweetheart,” he said softly into your hair. “I’m really going to miss you too.”
The car honked again, forcing you to part after one final squeeze. Once he was in the cab, Eddie turned to wave at you as it drove away. You waved back to him, watching until the car disappeared after turning off of your street with a lump in your throat.
You took a moment to compose yourself, then rejoined the party, taking the seat next to your dad that Eddie had vacated.
The two of you quietly watched Jesse playing with his toys for a while before your dad finally spoke.
“You know, I have to tell you something,” he said. “I always thought it was a shame you and Eddie never dated.”
“You and I both,” you said, looking over at him and chuckling. “Unfortunately, Eddie doesn’t feel the same way.”
“Bullshit, he doesn’t,” he said, shaking his head. “That kid has always been crazy about you. Still is.” He waved his hand through the air as you started laughing again. “No, really, Y/N. Why else would he fly nearly across the country just to go to a kids birthday party that isn’t even his? It wasn’t for the cheap hotdogs and cake from a box; I can tell you that.”
Now that really stunned you. You hadn’t thought about it that way, figuring this whole thing had just been an over-the-top friendly gesture done by your rich rock star of a best friend because he felt sorry for you being a single mom.
But that didn’t make nearly as much sense as this explanation did.
This made you think back over your friendship with Eddie, both since you reconnected and from back in high school.
All signs pointed to your dad being correct. Eddie Munson had feelings for you.
That was both exciting and sad all at once.
While this was something you’d dreamed of, even literally a few times while you were still in school, you knew it was always just a fantasy, never anything you should seriously give any thought to. And now? Now it just sounded like something completely impossible. The two of you lived in different states, practically on different coasts, living completely different lifestyles.
In the grand scheme of things, you realized it might just be easier to pretend that conversation with your dad never happened, and bury your head back in the sand like it had been for all these years.
But, at the same time, the very idea of doing that made your heart sink.
At least with Eddie being busy on the tour, you’d have some time to figure out what you wanted to do.
Or, rather, what you should do.

Here we go for self-promo, which I never am fond of doing but know I have to do it in this case! My self-published, indie comic, Robust Heat is now in pre-launch on Kickstarter! You can find it here.
It is going to be printed into a full volume, graphic novel, with 150+ pages. Full colour, American standard comic book size (6.625" x 10.25"). The printed version is going to be more polished, have rewritten, relettered, redrawn parts that the webcomic version does not have. If you like slight Baccano! vibes mixed with Netflix's Hollywood (2020), then please consider checking it out :D. The actual launch date is going to be on April 2nd, and if you'd like an email notification when the campaign goes live, the notify me button will do the job for you. And if you have anyone in mind that you think might enjoy these series, please pass this along to them! I know I don't have a wide reach/big audience, and what my comic is--I consider kind of niche-so I'm hoping to get this word of mouth get rolling. Thanks in advance \O/ PS, I will be in PCF (Prairie Comics Festival), and hopefully DCAF (Dartmouth, not Dublin, Comics arts Festival) later this year. If any of you are from those spaces, do let me know if you'd be interested in local pick-ups.

AEW has many second-generation wrestlers such as Brian Pillman Jr., Brock Anderson, The Gunn Boys, and Hook
Hook didn’t really “get along” with the others
He just wasn’t that interested in talking with them
Or with anyone outside his friend group
That was until you arrived on AEW’s scene
Many people, fans and wrestlers alike, were excited to see you in AEW
You have made a name for yourself all around the world for your wrestling skills, storytelling abilities, charisma, and attractiveness
And slightly because you are Shawn Michaels’ child
Yeah, that’s right. Mr. Wrestlemania, The Heartbreak Kid is your dad
Even though it was a blessing to have him as your dad and mentor, you wanted to become a wrestling legend by yourself
So your ring name was completely different from his and you barely mentioned him in promos/interviews (essentially keeping your personal life very private)
But everyone can see the resemblance when you step in the ring, especially when you went against Natalya or Charlotte Flair
Anyways back to Hook
He was completely “hooked” when he saw you for the first time, to the extent that he actually started to talk to you first
It surprised many people backstage as they know Hook to be cold to others
And as you were seen as an untouchable person (being the child of one of the most prominent figures of professional wrestling)
As he started to talk to you more, he couldn’t help but admire you, your accomplishments, and your personality, and vice versa
However, he felt more familiar with you. Like he already met you before or something. But he just passed it off as the butterflies in his stomach growing
After being in AEW for about a month, you and Hook started to date
Many people started to notice Hook being happier and slightly more friendly (not too much) to others, including his dad, Taz
While his son was telling him about his significant other, Taz couldn’t help but smile and laugh
“It’s so nice to see you two reconnecting after all these years.”
“Reconnecting? What do you mean?”
Taz then opened a little book of memories of his career and flipped to a random page before showing it to his son
“The number of times Shawn and I had to meet up at the park or backstage for your little playdates-“
Hook blocked out his dad as he analyzed the picture of a younger him and what seemed like a younger you smiling at each other, while Taz and Shawn were in the background
"You two were very close until they went to live with their mom full-time while Shawn was on the road. Y'all just went separate ways and sort of forgot about each other."
Everything started to click in his head as he picked up his phone and dialed your number
It made sense why you two got along so easily, how you had the same opinions on different topics, how it felt like you two went through the same experiences
He vaguely remembered you, but he didn’t know it was you
As soon as you picked up he said, “You’re Shawn Michaels’ kid?”
“Yeah…I thought you knew.”
Now he felt like an idiot…
“It's like I knew, but I didn't know it was you. It's complicated-”
“I thought it was a fact that everyone chooses not to discuss like how you’re Taz’s son.”
After explaining why you didn't bring up your dad (mainly because everyone talks about him or associates you with him), Hook said he wasn't mad but just surprised and completely understood your reasoning
"But this also explains why I felt so vulnerable with you. I'm happy we were able to find each other again"
After getting off the phone, Hook sent you the picture
A couple of moments, he was notified that you posted on Instagram
It was the picture of you two and then a more recent picture with the caption "day 1 🤍"
He found himself smiling at the post, also happy that he found you again
